Aegis Pod by Geekvape
A hardware review today with a complete pod kit, this is the Aegis Pod by Geekvape. This is the baby in Geekvape’s very successful Aegis series which are all built for toughness. The Aegis Pod was supplied by the folks over at Vape & Juice. They have a very popular online web store as well as walk-in stores. The website offers free UK carriage and is fully stocked with top brand vaping gear and E-liquids, all at competitive prices.
Reviewing a simple pod system, especially one without a display, can be a bit of a light task. It’s mostly a case of fill and puff, but we’ll take a close look and explain the kit as much as possible.
The Packaging and what’s in the box?
Aegis Pod by Geekvape comes in a cardboard box with all accessories included. The box is coloured Black and Orange and features pictures of the Aegis Pod on the front. This is above the large Nicotine warning, even though we all know by now, this product doesn’t actually contain Nicotine.
The sides of the box include printed branding and Geekvape’s social media info. On the reverse of the box includes a printed description of the Aegis Pod, above printed graphics of its key features. Below, is Geekvape’s contact information, bar-code, serial number, and the scratch-for-authenticity panel. Another Nicotine warning is in large font at the bottom.
Inside the box is the main Aegis Pod unit. This one is in ‘Tamamushi’, which is Rainbow colour. Under the pod kit is 2 x 0.6-ohm coils and a pull open flap, which includes the charging cable and a tool to remove the coil from the pod. There is also some printed material including the user manual, warranty, and warning information. Everything you need to get set up is in the box and presented very well.
The Aegis Pod
Geekvape’s Aegis Pod is a very appealing little pod device looking very space-age and is cosmetically a definite relation to the Aegis family. It is a small pod mod weighing in around 73g and the size is 8.8cm high with 4cm width and a depth of 1.7cm. The main power/fire button is the front center of the device with a built-in LED. The faux leather padded-feel runs down the middle of both the front and reverse. On the sides is a rubber panel with the ‘Geekvape’ and ‘Aegis’ branding. A USB-C charge port sits on the bottom.
The Aegis Pod runs off an 800mAh internal battery with a constant power output of 18W. It powers on by 5 fast clicks of the button and fires by pressing the button. The light within the button gives prompts of battery level by showing a green light when the charge is high, to a red light when it’s getting close to needing a recharge. There is also built-in protection of a sleep function where the battery goes back to standby after 10seconds inactive. To wake the device, simply press the fire button.
As with all the Aegis series, this Pod device is built very strong and offers an ‘IP67 Waterproof’ and shockproof rating.
The Pods
The pod used in the Aegis Pod is a refillable tough plastic case using replaceable coils. Two coils of 0.6ohm rating are supplied. A coil simply pushes into the bottom of the pod. The E-liquid capacity is 3.5ml or 2ml for TPD-ruling countries in Europe. The 2ml version just has a rubber filler in to cut back the capacity level. This cannot be removed from what I can see.
Refilling the pod is via pulling back the rubber bung on the bottom. The pod is quite wide compared to pods in other devices, to fit the width of the short Aegis unit.
My thoughts?
After using the Aegis Pod for a few weeks daily, it’s clear it is a superb little kit. I’m not one to go and test the durability by throwing it around or taking hammers to it, but you can just feel it is built to take a lot. The Zinc Alloy frame remains totally unmarked without any paint-flake and you can tell it’s just a strong little quality device, carrying the same robust reputation as the others in the Aegis series.
The vape it gives is very good with a nice cloud-filled draw despite its small size. Either a very loose mouth to lung or slightly restricted direct to lung draw is what it offers in my opinion. The flavour is very good across all different flavoured E-liquids tried in it and the mesh kanthal stock coils last very well. I’ve been using higher Nicotine E-liquids and Nicotine Salts which run perfectly in the pod.
To me, this device wouldn’t be first choice directed at those trying to cut back or quit cigarettes but more a portable pod system for vapers due to the style and draw it gives.
