Origin Mini by Oxva
A review today for a pod kit and this is the Origin Mini by Oxva. This is another device adding to the ‘Origin’ series following the popularity of the others. The kit was supplied by the folks over at Health Cabin (Happy New Year to our friends in China) who supply all the latest and greatest in vape gear on their website. There are some amazing prices and shipping from them is very quick for overseas. You will also find a clearance page on the store including some discounted vape deals if you are looking for a bargain. Make sure you register or log into your account there to see better prices on products site-wide.
I do not own the original Origin but do have the Origin X from the range, so have something to compare this newer Origin Mini to sum up. Let’s jump in and check it out.
Packaging & Contents
The Origin Mini comes in a thick Black Cardboard box with a printed outer card sleeve. On the top of the sleeve is a gradient Golden/Black colour (highlighting the colour of the device inside) with an embossed shiny picture of the Origin Mini. The printed title in embossed Silver appears below with Oxva branding above. In the corner on the top is a small sticker with a printed juice capacity of ‘4ml’ and the design/colour of the device inside.
On the right side of the sleeve is three Silver printed key features of the Origin Mini and over on the left side is Silver printed ‘Designed by Justin Lai’ with a signature font. The bottom of the sleeve includes a printed small write-up explaining the device above a list of the package contents. There is also printed warnings, Oxva’s social media info and contact information. Two labels appear underneath; One with the printed serial, bar-code and colour and the other is a scratch-for-authenticity panel.
Contents inside the box are:
- Origin Mini Pod Mod including the fitted Pod.
- 0.3Ω UNI Coil (Pre-installed into the Pod).
- 0.2Ω UNI Coil.
- Type-C charging cable.
- User manual and Warranty card.
- Spare O-rings.
The Origin Mini device sits in padding at the top of the box with all the accessories in a box underneath. The packaging design is brilliant and really presented well.
Origin Mini Spec & Design
The Origin Mini by Oxva is powered by an internal 2200mAh battery and runs to a maximum of 60W. It is a portable pod device measuring 120mm height, 23mm width and depth of 31.5mm. The device is a teardrop shape made with PCTG & Zinc Alloy and depending on your design chosen, also with IML and Leather.
A design panel goes from the sides and around the back with branding also appearing on the front of the sides. The front of the Origin Mini has air slots at the top above the small main fire/power button. Below the fire/power button is a 0.69′ OLED display screen and below the screen is an adjustment button. The top of the device has a cut-out for the pod to slot in and join magnetically while the bottom of the device has a few vent holes and the USB-C charge port.
The Origin Mini runs on Oxva’s latest Photon chipset which has six safety measurements; Short-circuit, Over-time, Over-current, Over-temp, Over-charge and Over-discharge protection. The Photon also has a built-in intelligent match system where it will automatically set the power to the coil resistance and remember that setting.
Settings and adjustments on the Origin Mini are user-friendly and easy to use:
- To power on or off the device its 5 fast clicks of the power/fire button.
- To adjust power, press/hold the adjust button to the required wattage (it does round-robin).
- To reset the puff counter, hold the fire and adjust buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds.
- To lock the device, press the fire button fast 3 times and then the same to unlock. You can still vape via the fire button when in locked mode.
There are currently 5 different colours/designs available for the Origin Mini, these are; Buddha (as reviewed), Eagle, Golden Vibe, Brown Ripple and Black Carbon Fiber.
Origin Mini Pod & Coils
The Origin Mini pod is made with smoked PCTG with printed branding. To insert or change a coil, it simply pushes up via the bottom of the pod. There is also a magnetic strip on the bottom of the pod to make the connection to the device. At the top of the pod is a removable 510 drip tip with a rubber bung adjacent to remove and fill the pod. The juice capacity of the pod is 4ml.
There are two coils supplied in the kit. These are a 0.3Ω Uni coil that is already pre-installed into the pod and a 0.2Ω Uni coil packed separately. The Origin Mini runs with Oxva’s Uni coil series of coils so there is also a purchasable 0.5Ω Meshed and a Kanthal A1 1.0Ω (if you want to use it for a more MTL vape). The replacement coils are universal across Oxva’s Origin series available HERE at Health Cabin. There is also a little RBA you can purchase if you want to add your own coil.
The airflow is controlled via an airflow control ring which is situated at the bottom of the coil, that simply turns to open and close off the slot to your preferred level. This lines up with the air slots on the Origin Mini device. The airflow ring screws on and off the coil, so make sure you don’t lose it when changing coils on the pod. If you do, you can pick up replacements HERE at Health Cabin.
My Thoughts
In my opinion, the Origin Mini by Oxva is an absolutely outstanding kit! The design is very quirky and it is so comfortable in the hand while vaping, with the button placement perfect for both finger and thumb firing. The Photon chip is reliable and very accurate to the wattage with a fast responsive fire rate. The display screen shows clearly everything you need to know and wattage is set easily via the adjust button.
I have been consistently using the device over the last week and found the battery lasts me a complete day with a lot of vaping. Charge time via the USB-C cable is fast with around half-hour to full charge and there is a passthrough, so you can take a vape while charging the device.
When compared next to the Origin X without pods attached, the Origin Mini is slightly less tall and not as chubby as its bigger brother. This is obviously due to not having to accommodate a 18650 battery. The Origin Mini’s buttons are slightly bigger too, protruding out of the body as opposed to the sunken levelled plastic buttons on the X version.
The pod is easy to refill at the top without having to remove the pod every time you want to add more juice (something the default Origin X pod didn’t do) and the removable drip tip is a definite plus too. The problem I had on the Origin X default pod was the drip tip was moulded with the pod and found it got hot on the vape. The Origin Mini removable tip is actually very decent and has no problems at all with heat.
As for the Uni Coils paired with the Origin Mini, I think they are again outstanding. I can honestly say I prefer these to Voopoo’s PnP coils which are similar. Both the 0.2Ω and 0.3Ω in the kit offer amazing flavour across different flavour profiles and great clouds produced from such a small device. I cannot see anyone disappointed with the flavour that these produce. I also had some 1.0Ω Kanthal Uni Coil’s that I purchased before and have been using the Mini as a mouth-to-lung over the last day or two, and again, what a great vape!
Between the 3 coil resistances I used, I had zero leaks throughout. There was some very minor condensation you would expect at the bottom of the pod, mostly on the lower ohm coils when DTL vaping, but nothing to shout about.
It is hard for me to find any cons on the Oxva’s Origin Mini, it is a brilliant device that I will continue to use. I’d fully recommend it to both starters and seasoned vapers that want a simple little device that offers superb flavour and good clouds! Top marks to Oxva on this!
